With the release of Apple’s iPhone OS 3.0 yesterday, many people are trying to setup their iPhones to use the new MMS capability. As the phone is supported by Vodacom, many people using MTN are struggling, so here is a breakdown of the procedure:
Dial *123*12#
This will activate MMS on your account and send you a SMS that says :
Can’t auto setup MMS. Call 173 for help or setup manually…
Then, on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network
Enter the following settings:
INTERNET
APN: internet
Username: mtn
Password: mtnMMS
APN: myMTN
Username: mtnmms
Password: mtnmms
MMSC: http://mms.mtn.co.za/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: 196.11.240.241:8080
MMS Max Message Size: 99999
MMS UA Prof URL:
Exit Settings.
Switch off your iPhone and switch it on again.
When your iPhone restarts it will have MMS enabled, and you can go to Settings > Messages to verify that it is enabled. You can also enable the Subject Line field, so that you can add subjects to MMS messages.
I hope this helps.
